The strange just gets stranger in Of Night and Light, the new collection of fantastic…and fantastical…short stories from award-winning author Michael C. Keith.
Boston, MA — Blue Mustang Press is proud to publish Michael C. Keith’s new collection of shorts stories entitled Of Night and Light. Keith’s book collects more than 40 short stories covering all manner of speculative fiction, humor, and even a bit of romance. As the title notes, there are both light and dark themes within the book, though the author readily admits he leans a bit darker at times.
The subject matter in each of the stories is diverse. A student creates a wave gun to avenge his father’s death; a GPS leads a man down the road to an unpleasant past; a boy makes tar bubbles to rescue his drowning mother; a destructive act against an ageless light bulb causes global disaster; a life altering gift from aliens goes terribly awry; a contaminated lake protects and transforms a family; and a horticulturist inadvertently grows something monstrous. It is a strange world that Keith’s book visits…and the stories are very comfortable there.
Michael Keith is a member of the Communication Department at Boston College. He is the author of more than 20 books on the electronic media including Talking Radio, Voices in the Purple Haze, Radio Cultures, Sounds in the Dark, and the most used textbook in radio communication education, The Radio Station.
Keith is the recipient of many literary awards and the author of dozens of journal articles and short stories beyond what is included in this latest book. He is also the author of the critically acclaimed memoir, The Next Better Place.
His new book, Of Night and Light, is the second collection of stories published by Blue Mustang Press. The first, And Through the Trembling Air, was recently named a finalist in the 2012 Indie Excellence Awards in the Short Story Collection category.
