March 11, 2010 -- HealthWorks has adapted the Medifridge, a portable fridge for medication, to fit the main categories of medication for poly arthritis. There is today a worldwide trend to use pre-filled medication pens rather than 10 ml vials and syringes and most manufacturers of these medications (Abbott, Pfizer/Wyeth, Ely Lilly) have followed this trend by releasing pre-filled pens for Humira, Enbrel and Forsteo, their medications for poly arthritis. These pens make the injections easier to handle and give users more liberty of movement. The Medifridge has been adapted to fit these three different size pens so that users can now travel with peace of mind, knowing that their medication is kept exactly at a temperature between 2 and 8°C.
The Medifridge uses thermoelectric technology to manage the temperature of the medication. This technology is based on a principle called the “Peltier Effect”, which uses no gas or moving parts. A presetting of the temperature stops the Medifridge from cooling below 2°C and thus protects the medication from accidental freezing.
When TNF and monoclonal antibodies (medications used for poly arthritis) are exposed to extreme temperatures, they are damaged and very quickly loose their potency. The perfect storage temperature for TNF and monoclonal antibodies is between 2 and 8°C. They must never be frozen. All these facts place limitations on people with poly arthritis. The Medifridge, validated by the TÜV centre in Germany, gives users liberty of movement and allows them a greater choice of travel destinations.
The “smallest fridge in the world” allows those suffering from chronic diseases with sensitive medications to transport them in perfect safety during their travels, at the office or on holiday. Winner of a number of design awards, including the Concours Lepine in Paris, the Medifridge is also delivered with an adaptor that allows it to be powered by the cigarette lighter of a car.
The Medifridge is for sale on the site http://www.medactiv.com.
