After its debut at Milan's 2011 Salone del Mobile, "GEA", Arch. Leonardo Rossano's latest chair for TRUE Design, has found its new home at the Florence Institute of Design International.
July 07, 2011 -- The institute's director, Architect Marc DiDomenico stated, "After the expo we purchased one of the very first chairs to have at school. I feel it's important for education to make that final connection to the real profession. Having a finished product is so much more actual and informative then only discussing design in concept."
Its name, "Gea" is derived from the ancient Greek word "Gaia", which means "Mother Earth". The design features bright colors and sinuous shapes that were silhouetted combined with the contract furniture that characterizes the production of the TMA furniture group. The lithe and engaging lines are the result of a long research on a possible shape evolution of a singular surface. The chair is manufactured in molded polyurethane with a metal structure. Provided with large arms and rotating steel base, Gea is specially designed for boardrooms, lounges, and refined home settings.
Arch. Leonardo Rossano who teaches furniture design at the Florence Institute gave a presentation to students when the GEA design premiered at Milan's Salone del Mobile. The chair comes in various colours and materials to suit other types of interiors as well such as white leather. Gea's modern design was then inserted into the Florence Institute's decorated Baroque style 'Sala Degli Angeli' which dates from the 1700's. Surprisingly it not only fits a historical space with paintings and frescoes but actually compliments the curing Baroque lines in the decorations and paintings.
